The Game of Roulette

Roulette is a famous game of chance that is played at both online and land-based
casinos around the world. Meaning ‘little wheel’ in French, the game of roulette
originated in France and was made popular by the aristocracy and nobility who
frequented gaming parlors in the 1800s. Today, the game of roulette is played
mostly in European and American land casinos, and is offered by most online
casinos.
The game of roulette involves a wheel, a ball and a betting mat. A croupier will
spin the roulette wheel and the ball will be thrown in the opposite direction.
Once the wheel stops spinning the ball will land in one of the numbered pockets
of the roulette wheel and the position of the ball will determine who wins. The
roulette wheel is the most important tool in the game of roulette – it consists
of 37 (European Roulette) or 38 (American Roulette) numbered pockets which
alternate in red and black colors. The 0 or 00, however, are colored green.
In order to win in the game of roulette, a player needs to predict the position
of the ball once it lands. There are several betting options in the game of
roulette – some paying out even money, and others paying out as much as 35-1.
Players lay their chips on the roulette betting mat or table and are paid out
according to where the ball lands. Players can bet that the ball will land on
reds or blacks, odds or evens, and under 18 or over 18.
In the game of roulette, players can also bet on set groups of numbers,
or individual numbers. By placing their chips on the side of a row of
numbers or on the corners of a group of four numbers, players can manipulate
their betting chips to cover a wide range of options.
